The Broncos have just one more game before the regular season begins, but like the rest of the preseason games, this fourth preseason game is being used to prepare for what really counts. “Our target date has been September 12th all the way,” John Fox said. The starters will likely not see any action at all tomorrow night when the team plays the Arizona Cardinals, but don’t consider this downtime for the starters.

Much like how Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow has slipped down the team’s depth chart, so has his jersey sales fell down the list of the most purchased by NFL fans. The Denver Post reported today that, according to the NFL, Tebow’s jersey was the eighth-most popular jersey in terms of sales at the NFL.com store from April 1 to July 31, with Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and linebacker Clay Matthews taking the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, respectively, during that time.  From April through Monday, Tebow’s jersey sales had dropped even lower to a ranking of 10th.  The Broncos #15 jersey was the NFL’s [...]

For the first time ever, fans were allowed to choose who was on the cover of Madden 12. The finals came down to $100 million man Michael Vick and former Bronco Peyton Hillis. Hillis won out 66%-34% in April with more than 1 million votes casted, and now the guy that Josh McDaniels traded away is one of the most popular guys in the NFL. Go figure. If Vick really wanted the cover, he could probably offer Hillis a hefty sum of cash, but considering the curse, Vick is probably thankful that he’s not gracing the cover. With that said, [...]

The regular season is so close that I can smell it. It’s like that Thanksgiving Day turkey that’s been cooking in the oven all day or your mom’s warm chocolate cookies on a cold winter day. It smells delicious. With just one preseason game left, the 2011 season is practically upon us. Wesley Woodyard an been an important player for Denver Broncos for the past three seasons, particularly on special teams. Woodyard has served as a special teams captain for good reason. He’s vocal on the field and in the locker room, and he gives his best on every single down. To increase Woodyard’s responsibilities, he will most likely be starting at right linebacker as D.J. Williams sits out 3-4 weeks with a dislocated elbow. After leading the team in tackles for years, Williams will be missed indeed, but if there’s one person to carry on his aggressive playing style, it’s Woodyard.

Perhaps the most surprising initial cut of the day came when the Broncos decided to part ways with cornerback Nate Jones. Jones is in his seventh year in the league after spending the better part of his career with the Dallas Cowboys before moving on to the Miami Dolphins, and finally landing in Denver for the ’10-’11 season. During Jones’ last year in Miami, he had 54 tackles and 2 interceptions in 16 games. Last season with the Broncos, he had 57 tackles in 16 games. “It’s never easy. The Broncos were forced to make cuts today. Seven men packed their bags and made the long walk through the corridors of Dove Valley to leave the gates one last time. It wasn’t a dream. The Broncos starting defense really did hold the Seahawks to 3 first half points and 39 total first half yards. It wasn’t just last night that exposed Denver’s improved defense. It’s been since from the start of preseason that Denver’s defense has shown a new face. Against both the Cowboys and the Bills, the team’s starting defense allowed just 3 points and 90 yards in each game. The noticeable difference to Denver’s defense is in the pressure up front. That comes from Elvis Dumervil’s return from injury and from Von Miller’s loud emergence into the pro game. [...]

At the half it’s Broncos 10 Seahawks 3. This has been a defensive game, with the Broncos defense looking more aggressive than ever. With that said, let’s start of with defensive highlights because there were many. Defensive highlights: The first defensive drive was an exclamation point with Von Miller pressuring Tarvaris Jackson and then a group pressure to force the Seahawks into a three and out.
