Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton keeps stacking the wins. Now 5-2 on the season, Payton and the Broncos are on pace for their third-straight 10+ win season. He's now 37-21 with the Broncos, which is good for a .638 winning percentage.
Since the start of the Bo Nix era back in 2024, the Broncos are 29-12, which is a .707 winning percentage. While it's almost never pretty, the Broncos keep stacking wins and further cementing themselves as a legitimate contender.
And while we have wins in mind, Payton keeps climbing up and making all-time history. He is nearing more as the 2026 season rolls on.
Denver Broncos' HC Sean Payton is approaching even more history

Payton is now one win away from tying long-time Broncos head coach Dan Reeves for the 11th-most regular season wins in the history of the NFL. Denver hosts the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8, and with the Broncos having beaten the Chiefs all three times at home in the Payton era thus far, a fourth win feels likely.
Payton is also five more wins, so, another 10-7 season at least, from passing Reeves, Mike Tomlin, and Chuck Noll for the 9th-most regular season wins in NFL history. Payton is very likely to pass all three of those coaches at some point before the end of the 2026 regular season.
If the Broncos were to finish with, let's say, 12 wins, Payton would add seven more to his total and get to 196 in his regular season career, so eventually passing Marty Schottenheimer at some time in 2027 feels likely.
However, the odds that Payton passes Paul Brown at 213 in any year prior to 2028 would feel unlikely. With that said, Payton is under contract through the 2030, so he does at least have four full seasons left under contract if he plans on finishing that out with the Broncos.
With how good a coach Payton has been and his lengthy winning ways, it's a near guarantee that he is going to move a few slots up on the all-time wins leaderboard. Payton is also in a really good position to become the first head coach in the history of the NFL to win a Super Bowl with two different franchises.
In my opinion, Payton is a future Hall of Fame head coach if he were to retire tomorrow, but securing that second Super Bowl title would absolutely make that a no-doubt HOF career.
Between his regular season wins and the Broncos being a Super Bowl contender, Payton is still at the top of his game and one of the best head coaches of all-time.
