Sean Payton looks like a genius after Russell Wilson benching in NY

I still can't believe it went so bad in Denver

When the Broncos brought in Russell Wilson in the spring of 2022, many believed that it would be the beginning of a revival in Denver. The Broncos had long lacked a legitimate quarterback, and bringing in the former Super Bowl champion seemed to be the solution. However, it simply could not have gone worse, considering he was benched and subsequently cut.

Since his disasterous tenure in Denver, Wilson has moved on to the Steelers and Giants, but neither spot has exactly gone well. His Steelers tenure ended much worse than it started, and his Giants tenure basically picked up where he left off in black and gold.

Through three games, the Giants are 0-3. Wilson has only performed relatively well once, and looked his worst in their most recent loss to the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. After their 0-3 start, news emerged that the Giants would now move to rookie first-round selection Jaxson Dart to save their franchise.

Sean Payton clearly made the right choice in picking Bo Nix over Russell Wilson

When the Broncos decided to move on from Wilson and pick a new quarterback to pair with Sean Payton, there were some questions over whether or not the Broncos made the correct decision. The Broncos decided to take a quarterback with the 12th overall pick, and the sixth quarterback off the board. In many ways, there's a serious chance that Sean Payton saved his career by picking Bo Nix over Wilson.

In their first season together, Nix and the Broncos reached far higher heights than Wilson ever did in Denver. Even if his second season ended better than the first, the Wilson experiment was an abject disappointment that ended horribly for all involved. Many media heads tried to jump all over Sean Payton for his choice, some even going as far to assert racism, but Payton got the last laugh in the end.

As for Wilson, his career has gone off the deep end now. There's a chance he gets moved and latches on elsewhere for the rest of the season, maybe like the Bengals, but it is fair to question his future in the NFL following today's news. As for Sean Payton? His team has their clear quarterback for the rest of the decade, they are still favored to break into the AFC playoffs, and their future is one of the brightest in all of the NFL. In the end, it is clear who won between the two.
