On Tuesday, news broke that the New York Giants would be sending former Broncos' QB Russell Wilson to the bench. In a move that definitely does not surprise any Broncos' fan, Russell Wilson has been benched following the Giants' third loss in a row.
They lost to the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football, and it was simply an ugly performance from Wilson, who is now on his third team in as many seasons. He has also been tossed to the side for the third time in as many years.
And there is a clear reason why the Seattle Seahawks moved on from him following the 2021 NFL Season. With his benching, Wilson's Hall of Fame career may have just come to an end.
New York Giants are sending Russell Wilson to the bench
Wilson heads to the bench, and rookie QB Jaxson Dart now get to take over as the starter for the New York Giants:
The future is now: The #Giants are making first-round rookie QB Jaxson Dart their starter, per me and @MikeGarafolo.

After just a short stint starting and an 0-3 record, Russell Wilson heads to the bench. The Giants had a package of plays for Dart. Now, they’ll unleash it all. pic.twitter.com/J2fu3MUkiK
The New York Giants took Abdul Carter in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, but then traded back up in the first round to grab Dart. He was their best QB in the preseason by far but was not named the starter.
Honestly, the Giants signing Wilson and Jameis Winston in the offseason was a bit odd, and now they are making their QB situation a bit more clear. I would not be shocked to see the Giants flat-out cutting Russell Wilson and then having Winston serving as the backup.
Anyway, after two failed years with Denver, a short stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and now just three games with the New York Giants, the once-elite Russell Wilson is likely having to hang it up after the 2025 NFL Season, as he simply is not an NFL-caliber quarterback at this point in time.
