Bo Nix's statement after Week 2 win is inspiring (but also hugely concerning)

For the first half, it looked like the Denver Broncos were well on their way to a Week 2 loss and an 0-2 start, but the team had other plans. Once again, as we saw countless times last year, the Broncos simply found a way to win.

It took two fourth quarter touchdowns and some marvelous play from Bo Nix to tilt the game in the Broncos favor. While a win is nice, the second-half comebacks can't again become the 'normal' this year, right?

At some point, the Broncos have to start fast and not look back. After the game, Nix offered up a statement that is both concerning and indicative of how tough this team is.

Maybe the Denver Broncos need punched in the mouth before they really respond?

This isn't a bad way of thinking, but at the same time, it's concerning, right?

Last year, the Broncos got punched in the face more times than not in the first half. If that didn't happen, the team would not have needed so many late-game comebacks. It's simply the truth. We can talk about what exactly went wrong in the first half of those 2025 comeback victories, but that's not really the point.

While the wins were fun, including this week, it does paint an odd picture for the Broncos - why does this team need punched in the face so much to respond properly...? Is this just... how the team plays?

This could be a neat thing to simply try and avoid in 2026, as the Broncos are plenty talented enough to be able to control a game from start to finish. Funnily enough, the Broncos did that quite a bit during the 2024 season, but the schedule was on the easier side.

I guess if this has to continue being the case, and the wins continue to come, that's fine, but as we saw in the playoffs last year, getting punched in the face too much ends poorly. The Broncos won, and a win is a win, but this statement by Nix is something that does offer up some concerns.

The team clearly embraces the late-game chaos and might even feed off of it, but with some tougher opponents coming up in the following weeks, and the team perhaps angling toward a Super Bowl run, the Broncos need to be the team that starts doing the punching, not waiting to get beat up.
