Albert Breer's Bo Nix update throws gas onto the Broncos' Super Bowl fire

The Denver Broncos 2026 season could end up going down in team history as one of the most important. With how the 2025 season ended, the urgency has never been higher for this franchise, and until the Broncos actually win a Super Bowl in this current era, the urgency is only going to get more intense.

Quarterback Bo Nix is among the best at his position in the league. While the stat sheet might say that Nix struggled or took a step back in 2025, the truth is the complete opposite. Heading into 2026, Nix and the Broncos have all the boxes checked to win the Super Bowl, and this isn't just fandom speaking.

Sport Illustrated's Albert Breer recently 'emptied his notebook' on his stop at Broncos training camp recently, and his blurb on Nix really ramps up the Super Bowl hype.

Breer's update is simply one of the more encouraging things we've read about Nix thus far:

"Quarterback Bo Nix looks like a player ready to take another step, returning from a broken ankle he sustained in the AFC championship game after a 14–3 regular season. To those here at Broncos camp, his arm looks stronger, and that’s showing up in the slew of throws he’s making from bad body positions.

The resulting confidence is there, and that has enabled Nix to make the Broncos his team as he continues to grow as a leader. Combining Nix’s progress with Davis Webb becoming the play-caller—Payton handed over his playsheet based on the belief that it was what was best for the offense and the team as a whole—and Denver has a real battleship commander going into what looms as a brutal six-week stretch to the season."

Breer obviously meant AFC Divisional Game in the above blurb, but the point still stands. I do find it quite interesting that Breer is noting his arm looks stronger - that was something that seemed to go against him in the pre-draft process - that his arm just wasn't good enough to threaten all levels of the field.

And while this is just one throw, Nix's bomb to Marvin Mims Jr back in 2024 against the Cincinnati Bengals was one of the longest throws in Next Gen Stats history:

Throough two seasons, Nix's arm has been solid - it's not overwhemling like Josh Allen's, for example, but it's simply not gotten in the way of his producing and winning. Breer does also note that Nix looks ready to take the next step and that the confidence is evident.

As heartbreaking as it was for us to hear that Nix broke his ankle after that game, that feeling was probably 100x worse for Nix himself. It shouldn't come as a shock that he's come back as what appears to be a better version of his previous form.

He's only in his third year in the league, so there is still tons of growth to be had as well. What is interesting is that there are quarterbacks who enjoyed the best season of their career near the end of their time in the NFL. Former Broncos great Peyton Manning had the best season of his career in his third-to-last season in 2013, for example.

So while Nix doesn't have to have a career year in 2026 that stands out among the rest of his time in the NFL, 2026 is still wildly important. Capitalizing on Nix being on his rookie deal is a must, as this is the best possible window that any NFL team can have, in my opinion.

With a franchise quarterback on his rookie deal, a loaded roster and coaching staff, and brand-new facility, one could argue that the Broncos currently have the best overall setup in the NFL ahead of this season, and Nix's apparent growth, as evidenced in Breer's above blurb, could ignite a Super Bowl run this year.
