Linebacker

Christopher Allen

Christopher Allen was signed by the Broncos as an undrafted free agent. He’s a 6-foot-3, 241-pound linebacker from Alabama who many believe will have a strong chance of making the team in his first year.

He’s viewed by some as a sleeper.

He should get plenty of reps in training camp with Randy Gregory’s injury and Jonathon Cooper recovering from finger surgery. The competition between him and Baron Browning, who is expected to play some outside linebacker, will be fun to watch.

I do like Allen’s chances of making the 53-man roster this year.

Defensive Line

D.J. Jones

The Broncos shipped Shelby Harris off to the Seattle Seahawks this offseason and that created a need at defensive tackle. They signed former 49er D.J. Jones to a 3-year $30 million deal.

Jones has 110 tackles, seven sacks, and three passes defended in 61 career games.

The hope is that Jones will make a big impact on the defensive line as a run defender. It will be interesting to see how he adjusts to a new scheme.

Safety

J.R. Reed

J.R. Reed comes to the Denver Broncos as a free agent from the New York Giants. He previously played for the Los Angeles Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Reed should have a strong chance of sticking with the Broncos as a fourth or fifth safety, behind Justin Simmons, Kareem Jackson, and Caden Sterns. He’ll compete with rookie Delarrin Turner-Yell, Jamar Johnson, and P.J. Locke.

Cornerback

K’Waun Williams

The Denver Broncos needed a new slot corner when they lost Bryce Callahan to the Los Angeles Chargers in the offseason. They signed K’Waun Williams from the 49ers to a 2-year deal.

In 91 career games, Williams has just four interceptions, but he makes up for that low number with 11 forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He has 301 career tackles and 12 quarterback hits.

Hopefully, Williams can play a full season in 2022. He played in just 22 games over the last two years, missing eight in 2020.
