Denver Broncos weakness no. 1: Proven production at off-ball LB

Let’s just preface this one time by saying — if this is truly the “weakest” area of the Denver Broncos’ roster, we’re in good shape heading into the 2022 season.

The team is obviously high on Josey Jewell, who re-signed for two years, $11 million this offseason.

They are also high on Jonas Griffith, whose development could be absolutely massive for the team in 2022.

Still, not everybody is on board for the Broncos’ overall strategy at the linebacker position in 2022.

The team passed on off-ball linebackers in the 2022 NFL Draft, including passing on players like Nakobe Dean who fell all the way to the middle of round three.

They passed on linebackers in free agency other than re-signing Jewell and making a very modest move to acquire former Philadelphia Eagles starter and special teamer Alex Singleton.

The team also moved Baron Browning from the off-ball linebacker position to the edge on a full-time basis in the 2022 offseason, which would seemingly limit his potential to get on the field unless one of Bradley Chubb or Randy Gregory is injured.

The Broncos understandably loaded up off the edge but they are one injury at linebacker away from being in quite the pickle at the linebacker position.

The team’s top four at the position:

  • Josey Jewell
  • Jonas Griffith
  • Alex Singleton
  • Justin Strnad

As underrated as I feel Jewell is, and as promising as Griffith is, this is a position group that is potentially the biggest area for concern in 2022 after the debacle we saw in 2021.
