Denver Broncos player on the bubble no. 3: Jamar Johnson, S

The numbers game at the safety position is going to be fascinating to watch in 2022 for the Denver Broncos.

I recently suggested that it’s possible the Broncos could make a big-name cut at the position with all of the young players at the position that could step up this year.

Here’s the current logjam at the position:

  • Justin Simmons
  • Kareem Jackson
  • Caden Sterns
  • Jamar Johnson
  • JR Reed
  • Delarrin Turner-Yell
  • PJ Locke

To say that it’s going to be tough to crack the roster at the safety position in 2022 for the Denver Broncos would be a massive understatement.

It might require a player like Kareem Jackson not making the team for someone like Jamar Johnson to make it this year. He’s going to have to beat out a player the Broncos signed this year (JR Reed), a player they just drafted (Delarrin Turner-Yell), and a player the team really likes in PJ Locke.

Unfortunately, the 2021 fifth-round pick out of Indiana couldn’t crack the special teams rotation on a regular basis as a rookie, but he’s obviously exceptionally talented in terms of his coverage skills.

Hopefully, there will be some attractive trade bait at this position so the Broncos don’t lose a bunch of value.
