Denver Broncos 2021 NFL Draft trade down options: Indianapolis Colts

Colts 2021 selection: 21st overall

Because the teams all mentioned before the Colts could have a legitimate interest in trading up, there could be a situation where teams who are desperate for a specific player are willing to really pay up to move up.

Longtime Denver Broncos rival Philip Rivers spent the 2020 season with the Indianapolis Colts, and after one year with Indy, Rivers has retired from pro football.

The Colts will need to find a replacement for Rivers, and it wouldn’t surprise anyone to see them try to go with the tactic that has worked for a number of teams in recent years — find a one-year bridge, and draft his replacement the same season.

It makes a ton of sense for the Colts to try and roll with Jacoby Brissett in 2021 or go after a guy like Nick Foles who has familiarity with head coach Frank Reich as well as general manager Chris Ballard. If they go that route, however, they will need to have a plan in place to eventually replace those guys.

If any one of Trey Lance, Justin Fields, or Zach Wilson falls to the 9th overall pick, the Colts might be willing to pay a premium to move up. Similar to the value of the Bears moving up, the Colts would have to surrender at least their top three picks in this draft to get the Broncos adequate value, potentially more.

With a strong roster overall and a lot of cap space to use, the Colts may view trading up in the 2021 NFL Draft as a top option to solve their QB situation.
