Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys

I really feel for Dak Prescott. The man wanted to be paid and Jerry Jones consistently didn’t believe in him. The gamble didn’t quite pay off for Prescott who was having a career year down in Dallas while playing on the franchise tag before succumbing to a season-ending broken ankle this past Sunday.

Now, his future in Dallas has to be in severe jeopardy especially if Dallas secures a top-10 selection.

While I don’t necessarily think it’s worth paying Prescott $30M a year, that is the state of the NFL quarterback situation these days. Average to above-average quarterbacks are going to get paid simply because so many teams need a serviceable quarterback, including the Denver Broncos. Again, ideally, Drew Lock is that guy, but if Elway doesn’t think so and Prescott ultimately becomes available, the Denver Broncos should look at bringing in the former Mississippi State quarterback.

In 69 games, Prescott has thrown for 17,634 yards and 106 touchdowns while only throwing 40 interceptions. He’s also an adept runner having rushed for over 1,000 yards in his career to this point.

While the cap situation is certainly in flux given the pandemic we are all currently in, the Denver Broncos appear to be in a more favorable cap situation than most making this even more likely they could theoretically afford Dak.

This wouldn’t be the same thing as spending a lot of money on Case Keenum or even attempting to keep Brock Osweiler, we’ve seen a large sample size of Dak Prescott. He isn’t going to be a top-3 quarterback, but he can be top-10. And top-10 would have changed the fortunes of this Denver Broncos team the past couple of seasons post-Peyton Manning.
