4. Just keep blitzing

It certainly hasn’t been Vic Fangio’s ‘thing’ as a defensive play-caller, so it’s interesting to see the Broncos sending so many linebacker blitzes in recent weeks.

Part of the reason they are having to do that is because the defensive front isn’t getting home on a consistent basis, though they may have gotten somewhat of a confidence booster against Sam Darnold and the New York Jets.

Josey Jewell and Alexander Johnson have combined for three sacks and five quarterback hits through the first four games of the season, nearly matching their totals from all of 2019 (three sacks, six QB hits).

Todd Davis, for what it’s worth, finished the 2019 season with just one hit on the quarterback and no sacks.

Both Jewell and Johnson have the ability to make plays as blitzers whether they come right at the snap or they come on delayed blitz calls.

Until the pressure from the defensive front becomes consistent, keep sending Johnson and Jewell on blitzes as long as that’s producing results.
