Jaylen Watkins

The older brother of Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Sammy Watkins, Jaylen Watkins is a name that will be on the waiver wire that has some recognition.

A fourth-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles back in 2014, Watkins has had a bit of a disappointing career while playing for four different teams. He was most recently with the Houston Texans, who waived him on Saturday.

He has never been anything more than a role player and that is exactly what he would be in  Denver. But if there were an injury to either Simmons or Jackson, he is a guy with plenty of playing experience who could slide into a bigger role.

Watkins has played in 50 career games.

The Los Angeles Chargers, who Watkins spent the past two seasons with, could also be interested in re-acquiring him after their star safety, Derwin James went down with a significant injury.

Watkins isn’t a perfect answer and he is available for a reason, but he is the kind of guy the Broncos’ coaching staff could mold into a serviceable safety on a cheap one-year deal.

At just 28 years old, he should have fresh legs and plenty left in the tank to bring to a team in need.
