Third round: Amani Hooker, S, Iowa

NFL defenses are moving in the way of getting a pass rush and creating turnovers.

The Broncos have players who can create a pass rush, but they could use more on the back end of the defense who can create turnovers.

Though the team is not lacking for safety help, it’s become apparent that Darian Stewart is not a long-term option for the team and the defensive backfield has struggled this year in general.

Amani Hooker was named defensive back of the year for Iowa, in the Big Ten conference, and was also recently named a second-team All-American by the Associated Press.

Hooker’s abilities in coverage are outstanding and he can play a variety of positions. He’s not a traditional free or strong safety but a player who can be moved all around the defensive formation like many of the top young safeties in the NFL in this new era of defensive play.

Hooker’s ability to react to plays and put himself in position to make plays on the ball would make him an incredible pickup for a Denver defense that struggles to cover tight ends and has consistently had players out of position in 2018.

This is a weapon in the passing game, but also a great defender against the run. Hooker is a sure tackler, and the Broncos have also struggled badly with missed tackles in 2018.
