Bernard Pierce certainly hasn’t been the most talked about running back in Broncos camp, but he caught my eye when I noticed the legendary jersey number he picked.
Pierce, who has spent time with the Ravens and Jaguars in his career, is rocking Terrell Davis’ no. 30 jersey. That number hasn’t been retired by the Broncos, but it probably should. Some good players and high character guys have worn that jersey since Davis left, most notably David Bruton, who was a team captain and excellent special teams player.
Pierce has a long road ahead of him to stealing a roster spot in Denver, which doesn’t seem likely at this point, but you never know. He has proven himself a capable runner with excellent size and speed, but off-field issues and a regression in play have led him to Denver where he was a reserve/futures signing.
