Denver Broncos: Study the Past If You Would Define The Future

The Pass Game: Plays for Success
Again they play a lot of bend but don’t break type defense. They are waiting for you to make a mistake on offense. This is why they give up a lot of yards every game but have done a bit better of keeping teams from scoring. They still give up a lot of points but not compared to the yards they give up. So those quick pass plays for the most part have been successful against them. That fits well with what Siemian likes to do so I see him having success against this secondary. Teams have picked the places that they want to test this defense deep as they have been susceptible to double moves by the WR’s giving up some big plays along the way.

Another area that teams have had success is in the play action/boot leg type plays. I hate to keep harping on the LB’s but with that youth you can catch them looking in the backfield and biting on that play action. The Chiefs and Falcons both had great success especially with the boot leg plays netting some very positive yards. This is why getting that run game is so important because it opens up so much of the field for this offense to go have success.
One final note that I think will be very important is the pass protection. While the Raiders have not had a ton of sacks you still have to respect the pass rush of Bruce Irvin and Khalil Mack. A lot of teams have either kept in extra blockers or have used especially the TE’s to help chip those DE’s before they went out and ran a route. I’m hoping the Broncos have learned their lesson from last year of making sure to pay attention to where those players are on the field.
