Mark Sanchez was added this year as the next step in finding who the starter at quarterback in 2016. Trevor Siemian is still in the conversation as a lead dog in the race, while Paxton Lynch continues to learn the playbook. However, Lynch and Siemian can very much win the job in to the preseason, but right now Sanchez leads the group. Early in the morning, Sanchez performed very well in the short intermediate passing game, but got burned at times in crossing patterns and deep passes. Sanchez does not need to throw passes deep to Thomas, Sanders and Fowler. Short passes to all three players can be taken to the house in a hurry.

Head coach Gary Kubiak has stated that Siemian is in the discussion to be a starter this year for the Broncos. After watching Siemian briefly in the early to afternoon practice, Siemian will need more work in the organized workouts versus individual. Siemian looked more comfortable in the Kubiak system than a year ago; however has to make better decisions with the football. Turnovers will continue to doom this team, if it is a trend in the season. Siemian in the individual workouts looked smooth with his throws and pocket presence, with a capital “S.”

The future at quarterback is Paxton Lynch, but today he was still learning the system and asking questions like a rookie should do. Lynch has the quintessential frame the Broncos would want in a quarterback after the success Brock Osweiler had late in the season. The arm strength and action is there for the young QB out of Memphis. For Lynch or Siemian to win the job, they will have to beat Sanchez in the preseason.
