Punter

Britton Colquitt

One thing that I have noticed about Britton Colquitt is that his punting average has not improved a lot since the 2012 season. He has had a slight decline in his punting average and net average. However, he did step it up during the postseason. Even that sometimes may not be enough.

I believe in order to keep his job, Colquitt is going to need to show the Denver Broncos that he can get back to those impressive numbers from 2011-12 that earned him a big time contract. He is the highest paid punter in the league and he needs to start showing that to the Broncos or he is out the door.

Riley Dixon

The Denver Broncos used their final pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to select… a punter? You heard that right folks. If the Broncos used one of their draft picks to select a punter, then Colquitt better be ready to compete.

What impresses me the most about Dixon is that he can help run some trick plays from the punting formation. He was able to successfully do that in Syracuse. I have no doubts that if he makes the final roster that Gary Kubiak and Joe DeCamillis will use that at times to catch the opponent off guard.

The only thing that could keep him from winning the job is his transition from punting in domes from outside. But the ball does carry more in the mile high air, so this should not be a huge issue. But we shall see in the preseason and training camp.
