The Broncos drafted McGovern in the fifth round out of Missouri, and many thought he had potential to be taken at some point on day two, not unlike his former teammate at Missouri Mitch Morse in 2015. Morse was selected by Kansas City with the 49th overall pick in 2015, but McGovern lasted considerably longer.

Like Morse, McGovern brings versatility, athleticism, and toughness to the interior offensive line, but his claim to fame is his other-wordly strength. McGovern recently posted a video of himself bench pressing, saying he was reminded that he’s a football player, not a power lifter.

The average weight-lifter would look at McGovern and see an Olympian. To get an indication of his toughness, consider that McGovern partially tore his pectoral muscle while bench pressing 515 pounds this past year, and didn’t miss any games.

The Broncos are going to have to make sure he tones it down a slight bit in the weight room without ruining his mojo, but there’s no doubt that McGovern has the athletic ability and strength to hold up and excel against his new NFL peers. The quester is how quickly can he adapt in the classroom and learn the offense?

There are some who feel McGovern has a legit shot at starting for the Broncos at one of the guard positions.
