Growing Up Is Hard To Do In Professional Sports

AUTHOR: Kim Constantinesco | IN: Broncos, NFL | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Bradon Marshall says that he “has a lot of growing up to do.” The wideout for the Broncos had surgery to repair the damaged artery, nerve, tendons, and vein in his arm after slipping on a McDonald’s bag and crashing into the television set. He was engaging in horseplay with his brother when the incident happened.
At least Marshall is willing to admit that he needs to mature. I’ve compiled a short list of past and present professional athletes/coaches that still need to graduate from diapers:
1. Bobby Knight – Has temper tantrums like a two-year old. Chair throwing ability equally [...]

Champ Bailey Speaks

AUTHOR: Kim Constantinesco | IN: Broncos, NFL, News | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

If you ask Champ Bailey what concerns him the most about headlines coming out of Dove Valley this week, he would not tell you it’s Brandon Marshall’s freak Big Mac attack. He might not talk about the absence of Rod Smith at the first day of off-season conditioning or the disappointing loss of strong safety Nick Ferguson, to the Texans. He won’t even mention the fact that punt returner Glenn Martinez can’t gain weight despite eating six meals a day either.
What has been weighing on Bailey’s mind is Jason Elam’s departure. Bailey stated that even though the Broncos have lost [...]

A New Kicker For The Broncos

AUTHOR: Kim Constantinesco | IN: Broncos, NFL | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s official. Jason Elam is no longer the kicker for the Broncos. Elam agreed to a four-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons worth $9 million. As a player who played two more games with the Broncos than Elway did, it was surprising to see him walk away from a resonable offer put forth by the team. They offered him $7 million over three years, but there was no guarantee after the $2.3 million Elam would’ve made in 2008. I’m sure that played a role in his decision. His departure is also a little suprising because he is going to [...]

Shanahan’s New Digs

AUTHOR: Kim Constantinesco | IN: Broncos | COMMENTS: None Yet

Who needs a 34,927-square-foot home that includes a garage that is bigger than most homes?  Apparently, Broncos coach Mike Shanahan does. According to the DenverPost.com, Shanny will have his mansion completed in about a year in the Cherry Hills area of Denver.
The crib will include a video golf room, bowling alley, racquetball court, and a poker room. It sits on 3.5 acres and has six bedrooms, a kids arcade, a “wine residence,” and a guest house. So far it has forced the Shanahan’s to lay out $7.6 million to build the house. Shanahan is one of the league’s best paid [...]

Peppers Going To Denver?

AUTHOR: Kim Constantinesco | IN: Broncos, NFL, News, Rumors | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Guess who was spotted at the Nuggets/Sonics game last night in Denver. Need a hint? He’s a 3 time Pro Bowl DE with the Carolina Panthers.
Julius Peppers made an appearance at the Pepsi Center prompting speculation that he is talking with the Broncos. He still has one year left on his contract with the Panthers, but would be able to talk with the Broncos provided Carolina gave him permission. The Broncos seem to be set at DE, so he could have been in the area visiting family. Or maybe he is just a fan of the Nuggets. Either way, Broncos’ fans still have their hopes up.
In other [...]

Broncos Shifting For The Best

AUTHOR: Kim Constantinesco | IN: Broncos, NFL, News | COMMENTS: None Yet

Some quick notes:
 - Kicker, Jason Elam, returned to the country and will begin talks with the Broncos this week. He has been with the Broncos the longest out of any player (since 93′), and there are some snaggles regarding guaranteed money. The Broncos should not be worried about his leg strength. Yes, he is 38 years old, but he has won his fair share of games for us.
- The Broncos general manager is out. Ted Sundquist was with the team in some sort of capacity for sixteen years, but Mike Shanahan thought that it was time for him to move on. When asked [...]

A Letter To Javon Walker

AUTHOR: Kim Constantinesco | IN: Broncos, NFL, News | COMMENTS: None Yet

Sure, NY’s governor, Eliot Spitzer, is engulfed in a call girl scandal, and Hillary Clinton is making appearances on SNL and The Daily Show, but there is another headline that really blows my mind.  And that is Javon Walker’s luck in receiving a giant contract. No pun intended.
Walker signed with the Raiders for a whopping $55 million that included an $11 million signing bonus, and a $5 million starter salary over 6 six years. This package was handed to the guy after a 9 catch, 67 yard season in the Broncos’ last 14 games. He has had two surgeries in two years on his right knee, and [...]

Adding Another Bailey To The Broncos

AUTHOR: Kim Constantinesco | IN: Breaking News, Broncos, NFL, News | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s good to see that all the wining and dining the Broncos did this past week has paid off. They just signed former Detroit Lion, Boss Bailey (Champ Bailey’s younger brother) to a five year contract worth between 17.5 million and 20.5 million. He will be the strong side linebacker moving D.J. Williams to weak side linebacker next season. It’s exciting to have another Bailey on the team, and he should thrive in the Broncos defensive scheme.
A few facts about the new Bailey:
- Like Champ, Boss played at Georgia where he was a 3 year starter and first team All-SEC selection his senior year.
- He was drafted [...]

Mile High Salute To Favre

AUTHOR: Kim Constantinesco | IN: Broncos, NFL, News, Video | COMMENTS: None Yet

Brett Favre announced that he will be retiring today after 17 seasons in the NFL. Favre started 275 consecutive games for the Packers gathering a couple of championship rings and 3 MVP awards. Going beyond setting the record for TD passes and passing yards, his intuition and resilience are what really stuck out. He could go out there, throw a few interceptions, and then take the next snap with the same amount of confidence a touchdown would have brought. I think this video tells it all:

You don’t know how much pain it causes me to post this next video, but in honor of the Great Favre, I will. Here is a [...]
