There are probably many younger fans out there that look at the coaching career of Bill Walsh the way I look at those of Vince Lombardi, Chuck Knoll or John Madden. You can look at the stats or the film of a old player or a team and get a sense of how good they might have been, but you can’t really sense the greatness of a coach just by looking at his record or stack of Super Bowls.
Bill Walsh reinvented the game of football. At a time when teams subscribed to either a three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust running game or [...]

Ticketbastard Hates You
There once was a time when my favorite day of the year was the day Denver Broncos single-game tickets go on sale. I’m on the waiting list for season tickets, and perhaps at some time in my elderly years my number will come up. Until then I’ll play the roulette of trying desperately to break out of the Ticketmaster pack and score those coveted seats.
The public on-sale was Saturday, and we set up the War Room as we always do. Myself, the wife and our buddy Wade all had workstations logged in on separate accounts to Ticketmaster.com, and [...]
Who else thinks Javon Walker is set to explode in ‘07? You can put your hands down and enjoy the YouTube now…
This is the only Broncos article you’ll read that will not mention John Elway. Unless you count the fact that I just mentioned John Elway. You see, the Broncos have had relative stability at the sport’s most important position, trotting out Elway, Griese, Plummer and now Cutler in the last 24 years. The real legacy is with the clipboard caddies.
As a lifelong Broncos fan and general football fanatic, I’ve heard countless talking heads and seemingly intelligent writers drone on and on and on about the importance of the backup quarterback. You see, in Denver, they [...]
As a person with a general distaste for the mainstream media and especially the press-release factories posing as news stories that generally populate sites like NFL.com, I’m a rare visitor. But today I was poking around and stumbled upon this absolute gem of a story.
What?!?! Huge, 330 pound men aren’t good at soccer? I had no idea! Where would this guy ever have gotten the idea to play football. You mean Freddy Adu’s not going to line up at tackle? No Beckham in the backfield?
It certainly looks like Akah made the right choice. Besides, [...]
In the stable of half-retarded mules that are ESPN’s sports writers, Len Pasquarelli usually stands out like a shining steed. Then, he dropped this featured missive for the world to digest. In this groundbreaking article, Pasquarelli boldly proclaims that the Broncos will do the same stuff they always do. Big Len’s sage-like analytical skills suggest that the Broncos seem to like to run the ball. Maybe, just maybe, they’ll also have trouble finding auxillary receivers for the QB to throw to. And Len points out that Mike Shanahan’s still the coach, and he’s doing things the way he’s always done [...]
Gone but not forgotten. A tribute to Damien Nash and Darrent Williams, and a look at how the Denver Broncos are both remembering their fallen teammates and coping with the tragedies.
With a slow week in Bronco news, it’s time for some wild speculation. New wideout Brandon Stokley has everyone in Denver abuzz over Jay Cutler, with comparisons to Peyton Manning:
Jay and Peyton both have great arms. They both have a great feel for the offense,” Stokley explained. “That’s what you ask in a quarterback. They have to know the offense in and out. You can definitely see that Jay does. “And he’s a great leader out there on the field, like Peyton. You can definitely see the qualities.”
My first thought is that I’m going to have to sit [...]
Woody’s woody in a pickle
Another day on the Bronco beat, and there’s still nothing fresh to report. Instead of telling you that every sports outlet in America is picking the boys to finish second to San Diego in the division, I’ll throw around a lot of gossip (and even a few facts!) on the Denver media.
First off is Woody Paige. Last week in The Dailies I mentioned Woody’s column in which he suggested that John Elway should tutor Jay Cutler on the ways of the samurai quarterback. Well, a day later The Big Lead reported that Woody was named in a [...]
