Wild Cam Jurgens trade should have Broncos immediately calling Howie Roseman

Now wait a minute...

The Denver Broncos still have one of the better rosters in the NFL, and through four games, the team has managed to split their matchups. Sitting at 2-2 with games against Kansas City, Jacksonville, Los Angeles, and San Francisco is actually quite an accomplishment.

The team is also 2-2 for the third year in a row, and in 2024 and 2025, the team won double-digit games and made the playoffs. To be blunt, the Broncos are right where history tells us they should be.

And there is nothing wrong with looking into the future a bit, either. On Wednesday, a very interesting trade went down between the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens, and it has to have the Broncos thinking that they could get in on this fun...

The Denver Broncos need to get Eagles' GM Howie Roseman on the phone, ASAP

The Eagles just traded their Pro Bowl center to the Ravens for a second and fifth-round pick, and this comes not even 24 hours after their stud right tackle, Lane Johnson, announced his retirement:

Philadelphia is 2-2 on the season and really do not do anything well. They're not sticking out as a playoff team and have a very limited quarterback in Jalen Hurts who just isn't a player who can elevate the talent around him.

Frankly, it seems like General Manager Howie Roseman sees the writing on the wall and is kickstarting this potential rebuild, as this current era of Eagles football, which helped them win a Super Bowl in 2024, is now about over.

For the Broncos, they could benefit from this if the Eagles are willing to listen to trade offers, as inside linebacker Zack Baun would be a perfect fit for the Broncos defense. Zack Baun does not turn 30 years old until December and was a third-round draft pick by, you guessed it, Sean Payton and the New Orleans Saints back in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Baun did not truly break out until the 2024 season, his first with the Eagles, as he moved to inside linebacker that year after not being able to make an impact with the Saints as a pass-rusher. Baun was a Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro in 2024, and followed that up with a Pro Bowl nod in 2025.

Since the start of 2024, which has spanned 35 regular season games, Baun has racked up three interceptions, 14 passes defended, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, seven sacks, 299 total tackles, 22 tackles for loss, 10 quarterback hits, and a 72.8 passer rating in coverage, according to Pro Football Reference.

And if you're into PFF grades, he is at a 76.7 right now, which is good for 8th in their system among 74 qualified players. His contract is tradeable, as well, which makes this possibility even more interesting.

Simply put, the Broncos have a bad group of linebackers at the moment, and if the Eagles are indeed trending toward being sellers at the deadline, the front office needs to do whatever it takes to acquire Baun, as he'd be able to elevate the defense from day one. He's great in coverage, can play downhill well against the run, and can also get into the backfield and create negative plays.
