The Denver Broncos are going to re-make their offensive line in 2023, and this recently released Titans player could make a lot of sense. The team's offensive line was hot garbage in 2022 and needs to get better.
New offensive line coach Zach Strief has his hands full. Fortunately, it seems likely that General Manager George Paton is set to invest some serious resources into this unit, and it's much needed.
We'll see how many starters come out of the offseason, but I would assume that the free agency period will see the team fill most of the holes along the OL, as they are not picking until the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, so the odds that they find a day one starter is low.
Taylor Lewan, the long-time Titans' left tackle, was released earlier this week. If the Broncos do want to move on from Garett Bolles, who can offer a ton of cap savings, is coming off of a season-ending injury, and has regressed since his 2020 season, signing Lewan makes sense.
Lewan has been in the NFL for three more seasons than Bolles but is only one year older. Lewan has made three Pro Bowls in 2016-2018.
However, since the 2020 season, Lewan has played in just 20 games. He missed most of the 2020 and 2022 seasons with injuries, so that is a huge concern. However, Lewan has always been one of the best left tackles in the NFL, and Denver could get him for about half the price of what they have Garett Bolles under.
This is also a move to help free up some cap space for the team as well, and there is no reason why the Broncos also couldn't re-sign someone like Cameron Fleming as the primary swing tackle in case Lewan does again struggle with injuries.
He's played 105 games in the NFL and is objectively a great player. Maybe this potential chance of scenery for Taylor Lewan could perhaps reverse his bad injury luck.
This is not the only situation at left tackle I'm advocating for, but I think it's a legitimate option.
