The Denver Broncos continue to win sloppy, and that was a story for most of the 2025 NFL Season. Until this team can prove that they're able to win in a much cleaner fashion, we'll keep having fair concerns about how good this team can be.
Offensively, many of the same issues are present, as well, but there is something to be said that this team is 3-2 after five games, playing arguably the toughest schedule in the league thus far, as even the Los Angeles Chargers in a divisional game is harder than their now 0-5 record might have indicated.
Let's see where the Broncos stand in our updated AFC West power rankings/
Denver Broncos trending upward in latest AFC West power rankings
4. Los Angeles Chargers (0-5)
The Los Angeles Chargers have nothing going for them at the moment, and it could get to the point where this team not only sells at the trade deadline, but also considers some in-season coaching changes. Justin Herbert has also struggled this year, but the personnel, even before all of these injuries, were collectively below-average.
The front office just totally whiffed this offseason, and it seems like head coach Jim Harbaugh whiffed on his hire of Mike McDaniel.
3. Las Vegas Raiders (3-2)
Now losers of two in a row, the Las Vegas Raiders might be heading toward a more accurate level of play. They lost a close one to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4, but then followed that up with a blowout loss against the New England Patriots in Week 5. You really hope this is just two ugly weeks that they can wash away, if you're a Raiders fan, but Las Vegas is still a work in progress.
This is still year one with the new coaching staff, and the roster is still not great shape overall. Still, though, being 3-2 through five games is exceeding expectations, and it does at least feel like Vegas can teeter around .500 this year, which would be a massive jump from the previous season.
2. Denver Broncos (3-2)
The Broncos defense came alive a bit in Week 5, and it was needed and also expected. The Chargers were starting a rookie-filled offensive line, and also had a skeleton wide receiver crew. Denver is now 3-2 on the season, but it's not without some head-scratching issues that can't seem to get corrected on offense.
The positive spin here is that the team has played one of the toughest schedules in the NFL thus far, so it might be expected that the team looks like this, and being 3-2 does also give you some optimism for the future, as they simply aren't going to see this type of gauntlet again in 2026.
1. Kansas City Chiefs (4-0)
Kansas City was on the bye in Week 4, but they still top the AFC West. The only unbeaten team in the conference right now, the Chiefs are getting some legendary returns from Kenneth Walker III, their top free agency signing.
The defense is playing reasonably well, and Patrick Mahomes looks like his old self. The overall personnel on this team isn't great, as there are major holes on both sides of the ball, but if Mahomes and Andy Reid still have some magic left, the Chiefs will be every bit of a juggernaut this year.
