The Denver Broncos, even in wins, do not seem to quell many concerns that we have pointed out. For starters, the offense just can't seem to get much going throughout an entire game. Yes, the team has played a tough schedule thus far, but everyone on that side of the ball looks regressed.
And, defensively, the absences of John Franklin-Myers and Jonathon Cooper have proven to be huge. Despite those major concerns, the team is still 3-2 and on a short week, as they return home to play the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football.
Managing to get out of this stretch with a 4-2 record would feel like the best-case scenario, but that won't happen unless this troubling development gets fixed.
Denver Broncos RB RJ Harvey only had three touches on offense
This felt like the total opposite of what needed to happen in Week 5. The Broncos have not been able to run the ball well this season. Coming into Week 5, the team sported the 4th-worst rushing offense in the NFL. That simply can't continue if this team hopes to make the playoffs.
Much of the issue has unfortunately stemmed from J.K. Dobbins, who just has not looked himself this year. In fact, some have even wondered if he's playing hurt. While we don't know that for sure, what we do know is that the run game looks bad.
And until Jonah Coleman comes back, which can happen in Week 7, the team will have to continue relying on Dobbins and RJ Harvey, but with how regressed Dobbins has looked, it would make some sense to get the youthful and explosive Harvey more touches, right...?
Well, in Week 5, just like we all predicted, the Broncos gave Dobbins a whopping 18 carries. He also had two receptions, so he totaled 20 touches. As for Harvey, he had three total offensive touches for a measly seven yards.
That is simply inexcusable. Even if Coleman was healthy and in the lineup, Harvey would still be the most explosive player in the backfield, and it feels like Harvey has taken strides as a runner this year, so it is a bit odd that he did not see more carries in Week 5.
I understand why head coach Sean Payton wanted to rely on Dobbins, especially in a late-game situation, but Harvey is someone who should be able to spark the offense, as he has big-play ability with his legs and as a receiver.
This is simply a troubling development that cannot continue going forward.
