The Denver Broncos were missing rookie running back Jonah Coleman for four games in Weeks 3-6, as he was on IR with an ankle injury. Coleman helped 'ice' the game for the Broncos against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2 with tough, smart running.
And in his first game back in Week 7, Coleman had 11 total touches and out-snapped and out-touched both J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey. Honestly, Coleman getting that much of a workload in his first game since September 20th was rather shocking.
However, the Broncos run game looked the best in the two games Coleman has had a notable workload for, and that probably isn't a coincidence. Even with Coleman having played extremely well in Week 7, that should not remove the Broncos from the 'grand prize' at the position with the NFL Trade Deadline near.
The Denver Broncos still need to do what it takes to nab Jonathan Taylor
According to Adam Schefter, at least, the Broncos could have interest in Jonathan Taylor of the Indianapolis Colts:

The connections with Taylor and the Broncos immediately started when the Colts fired General Manager Chris Ballard. Now sitting at 2-5, the Colts are probably going to be in sell mode at the deadline, as they're absolutely in a 'lost' season and should logically focus on acquiring draft picks for the new regime to build with.
And while a lot of Broncos fans are still riding the high that Coleman gave us in Week 7, averaging six yards per carry, there is still a lot of unknown with the player. Yes, Coleman does quite literally check every box you'd want in a future RB1, but he has seen notable action in just two NFL games, and with the Broncos still struggling on offense but being in a clear Super Bowl window, nothing should be off the table.
In fact, the aggression should only increase, as Super Bowl windows close as quickly as they open, and getting a pure, elite runner like Taylor would continue to have this run game looking beautiful. Denver's offense still has more 'bad' this year than good, and while it would be wise to continue to ride with Coleman, it is far from a guarantee that he'll be enough of a spark to have this run game in a good spot from now until deep into January during a hopeful playoff run.
We did cover a few trade ideas last week, and while Denver did already trade multiple draft picks for Jaylen Waddle, the team does have enough overall resources to pull off another move like this. If not now, when?
Head coach Sean Payton is also trying to become the first head coach in the history of the NFL to win a Super Bowl with two different teams, and I would have to assume that fact is a major motivator for him with the Broncos.
Coleman is awesome - he appears to be someone with a bright future in the NFL as a lead back, but given the circumstances of this season and who could be available, adding Taylor to the mix is still a marvelous idea.
