He's here, and he's perfect may not do it justice. The debut of Jaylen Waddle in a Denver Broncos uniform -- even if it was just a preseason game -- was everything the fan base hoped for.

The Broncos didn't make many moves to add from the outside during the 2026 offseason. In fact, up until recently, they had only brought in one outside free agent to the roster via free agency: Safety Tycen Anderson. Jaylen Waddle was it. The Broncos made a huge splash in March to trade for Waddle, so it's understandable that his debut was so highly anticipated.

And it just so happened to be on the same night as Bo Nix's return to action, in front of the home fans on top of it all.

After hearing all about Waddle's huge connection with Bo Nix at the final day of training camp practices, everyone in Broncos Country got their first sneak peek at what Waddle can bring to the offense in a game situation. It only took one play -- one target -- to fire up the fan base about the player who is considered this team's missing piece in the Super Bowl puzzle.

Jaylen Waddle only needed one play to get every Denver Broncos fan excited

There is so much going on with this play, it simply must be dissected fully to truly appreciate it. And once the All-22 views come out, it's going to get even better.

Let's first acknowledge the situation here. It's 3rd-and-5 on the offense's opening drive. They're still trying to get the drive started. Waddle is the one they call on.

Lined up in the slot, Waddle gets into a favorable matchup against safety Xavier McKinney in man coverage, and the Broncos have the perfect play called to beat man coverage. And Waddle is capable of completely feasting on man coverage.

He gets so much separation on this route that it's really just an easy pitch-and-catch for Nix. By the time the ball gets to him, the defender isn't close enough to compete for the ball at all.

Because of all the separation he created, Waddle then has an opportunity for some big-time yardage after the catch, which is something else the Broncos' offense desperately needs this season. And this big play was also over the middle of the field, an area the Broncos didn't utilize nearly enough last season. Maybe even over the last couple of seasons.

Yes, it's just one play in a preseason game, but this is a huge takeaway for everyone in Broncos Country. Waddle's impact on the offense simply cannot be overstated and the way he can create opportunities for other players is going to be exciting to watch.
