Since the start of training camp, every Denver Broncos fan has been waiting for a big connection between quarterback Bo Nix and his new star receiver Jaylen Waddle.
With Waddle missing some significant time due to an injury, those opportunities have been rather limited. But at Wednesday's practice, the duo of Nix and Waddle finally connected on their biggest play of camp, and what could be a monumental moment for their long-term chemistry.
According to those in attendance at Broncos camp, Nix launched a pass with 50-60 air yards underneath it to Waddle deep downfield, and Waddle made a huge play over none other than cornerback Pat Surtain II, who has given up virtually nothing all camp.
To say this is a big moment would be selling it way too short.
Bo Nix and Jaylen Waddle connect for huge gain at Broncos training camp
Hello, Jaylen Waddle.

Just caught a ~60 yard bomb from Bo Nix. Good on good, with PS2 right there with him.
Up there with the best plays of camp.
A clear example of why the Broncos’ made the splash trade this offseason.
To be clear, this week is Waddle's first week officially back to the practice field after suffering the injury earlier in August. Head coach Sean Payton said at the time that it was some form of "muscle tightness", and Waddle was an engaged member of practice without being in a helmet or pads a lot of the time.
Now that he's worked his way back, everyone has been wondering whether or not the Broncos would simply be bringing him back slowly or just flat-out limiting him in practice so he could be as available as possible when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1.
It sure seems like Waddle is healthier than that.
Even with some delayed gratification, this type of update coming out of training camp is bordering on cathartic for Broncos fans. Second-year receiver Pat Bryant has already been stealing headlines as the offense's top breakout player this year. Courtland Sutton was in midseason form during the team's preseason win over the Falcons. Troy Franklin has been making plays.
The receiver room appears to have collectively taken a huge step forward, but Waddle is still the missing ingredient for the offense. And what Bo Nix said earlier this offseason now feels borderline prophetic:
“There’s an element of explosiveness that I think as an offense we’ve lacked for a couple years. We’ve had plenty of explosive plays, plenty of points, all that kind of stuff. We’ve made great strides, but there was a level of explosiveness that a guy like that adds. So you could be first-and-10 and starting a drive and go one-and-done because he takes it 75, 80 yards. That’s the kind of weapon that we added, and that’s I think what we all have been out here watching and sort of really enjoy watching."

The question now becomes whether or not fans will get to see the duo of Nix and Waddle on the field during a preseason game (or two). The Broncos take on the Green Bay Packers in Denver on Friday night, and if Waddle is running like this in practice, it would make sense for the team to at least get him a package of plays and get his feet wet in a game situation.
Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but the last crowd of fans in attendance at training camp may have been witness to the beginning of a truly special connection between Nix and Waddle.
