Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix will be making his 2026 preseason debut in Week 2 when the team hosts the Green Bay Packers. Nix was on the sideline for the Broncos blowout victory against the Atlanta Falcons the week prior, and if that blowout told us anything, Denver could win by an even larger margin against Green Bay.
Nix is healthy and was plenty healthy enough to play in the Broncos preseason opener, but he's trending toward playing in the Week 2 and Week 3 preseason games, building up to the season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.
This is the first game action for Nix since the AFC Divisional Round victory, and he needs to do these three things, at least.
Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix must do these 3 things in his preseason debut
Break the huddle efficiently
This will be the first time Nix is playing in a game where offensive coordinator Davis Webb is calling the plays. The operation with Webb at the helm seemed quite smooth against the Falcons, so it's only natural to expect that Nix operates things smoothly against the Packers.
A big thing here is getting the play call out quickly and breaking the huddle, as the Broncos did have issues getting out of the huddle a plethora of times in 2025. This gives Nix and the offense little time on the play clock to assess the defense and perhaps make any pre-snap changes.
We've also heard quite a bit this offseason from just about everywhere that the Broncos want a quicker operation on this side of the ball. Breaking the huddle that way is where it starts.
Build some sort of connection with Jaylen Waddle
Jaylen Waddle was back at practice on Tuesday and seems to be trending toward getting some action in Week 2. Nix and Waddle have to begin to form an on-field connection, as that is already present with the other pass-catchers in the room like Courtland Sutton, Troy Franklin, and others. Waddle was the big fish this offseason that the Broncos caught, and he's widely expected to be a central piece of the offense, so it's reasonable to want Nix to target Waddle early and often so the two can get some on-field reps in together.
Avoid being sacked
It's not that Nix can't be sacked, but it would be an unnecessary hit to take in the preseason. Yes, Nix might enjoy being taken down once to get that done and over with, but at the same time, he's always been able to avoid sacks at a high level, so I don't see why this can't be a thing for preseason Week 2.
This also has to continue being a huge piece of his game in year three and beyond. It's a negative play in his mind and not something that needs to be present in a preseason game that is almost meaningless.
