The Denver Broncos' two losses this year could not have been more ugly, to be honest. The team has looked outclassed big-time in their losses, and just barely scraped by with wins at home in Weeks 2 and 3.
All in all, the Broncos being 2-2 feels like a slight miracle based on how poorly the team has played on both sides of the ball. With 13 games left, the cliche of 'there's a lot of football left' is also quite true. The team is also 2-2 for the third year in a row.
The Broncos have been remarkably mediocre across the first month of the season, and with another 2-2 record now official, the way the team responds could be special.
The Denver Broncos have responded well after the first month of the season
We have talked about the early-season struggles in Sean Payton's tenure, and it was probably a lot to ask for this team to start 3-1 this year, especially with how tough the schedule is to begin the season. Honestly, a 2-2 start is right where the team should be, right?
In 2024, the Broncos actually lost their first two games and then won three in a row, but they did also pass through that 2-2 record. In 2025, Denver won their first game, lost two in a row, and then decided to win 11 in a row, passing over 2-2 in the process.
More specifically, though, here is how the Broncos finished those seasons in 2024 and 2025 after the 2-2 start:
2024: 8-5
2025: 12-1
The Broncos have gone a combined 20-6 in Week 5 and beyond over the last two seasons. As for quarterback Bo Nix, who has come under fire a bit this year, this is how he's finished the seasons after the 2-2 starts:
2024:
28 touchdowns
8 interceptions
103.2 passer rating
320 rushing yards
2 rushing touchdowns
2025:
18 touchdowns
7 interceptions
87.8 passer rating
278 rushing yards
4 rushing touchdowns
Nix was excellent back in 2024 following the 2-2 start, and still carved out a mostly-productive stretch in 2-2 after the same start, but the 2025 season saw the team become the best late-game squad in the NFL, so while the production might not be all that great, the way Denver was able to close-out games stuck out as the main theme.
Denver has won nearly 77 percent of their post-Week 4 games in the Payton era since 2024, which would put them on pace for another 10 wins this year, which would give them a 12-5 record, if the trend holds.
This team clearly thrives when it's not the beginning part of the season. For whatever reason, this is how it's worked out, and there isn't any reason to believe that it can't happen again. The Broncos being 2-2 feels icky and gross, but it's far from, and a surge could be coming.
