The Denver Broncos are 4-0 at home this year and are still managing to win these close games. This started during the 2025 NFL Season, and during this insane streak, many people said that this simply wasn't sustainable - continuing to win by razor-thin margins left the Broncos with little room for error.
If you were someone who believed that late-game magic was going to disappear at some point, you're probably not alone. But now, about halfway through the 2026 NFL Season, the Broncos are not only 6-2 for the second season in a row, but they have won four in a row, six of seven, and are still figuring out ways to close out games in the second half.
Following the team's heroric, thrilling victory over Kansas City in Week 8, a stat was posted about Bo Nix that puts into perspective just how good he is in the fourth quarter, specifically.
Denver Broncos' QB Bo Nix is one of the most clutch QBs since the 1990s, according to this stat
Nix has a 118.9 passer rating when down between 1-8 points in the fourth quarter:
Bo Nix has a 118.9 passer rating when down 1-8 points in 4th quarter (playoffs included). That ranks first among 169 QBs with 75+ attempts in that scenario since 1991

This rating ranks first among 169 quarterbacks with a large enough sample size since 1991. If this doesn't confirm that Nix is already approaching all-time clutch status, I'm not sure what would at this stage of his NFL career.
The 'garbage time' argument doesn't work here, as that would mean the Broncos are either consistently blowing out opponents or consistently getting blown out. We do see something that could be directly related here - the winning, and the outstanding fourth quarter performance when trailing.
If the Broncos lost these close games, many in the fanbase would be calling for the team to bench or replace Nix. While it's not always ideal to need a late-game comeback, it's certainly better than the alternative of the team/QB not being able to mount one.
Could you say that Nix is not only the most clutch QB in the league right now, but one of the most clutch since 1991? I don't think it's outrageous, as we saw the late-game magic in the playoffs in 2025, too, and that could have continued had he not broken his ankle.
Nix has 26 touchdowns in the fourth quarter in his career, which is the highest mark in any quarter. He also has 41 total touchdowns against just 9 interceptions when trailing, which shakes out to be a 95.4 passer rating, which is the highest in the splits with being in the lead and being tied.
There really isn't any other way to put it - Nix is as clutch as you'll see at the QB position. He's been one of the best, passer rating wise, since the 1990s. The Broncos keep winning games and are now 30-12 in Nix's regular season starts.
Sure, you ideally want to see a more consistent showing on offense where the team wouldn't need as many fourth quarter comebacks, but for whatever reason, that hasn't happened. It's clearly not an inability, as the offense has exploded multiple times this year and has looked like a really sharp unit.
Any idea that Nix is incapable, can't throw down the field, or can't throw over the middle is flat-out wrong - these late-game comebacks force Nix to do those things. The ability is there, and I suppose if the Broncos knew how to get some of that production into the first half, they would have by now.
At the end of the day, this simply might be who the Broncos are, and if that is the case, they're very good at it.
