The Denver Broncos are in an 0-1 hole and obviously looking to avoid a horrible 0-2 start, but it's not going to be easy. The Broncos are hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars for the second time since that Week 16 game during the 2025 season.
While the Broncos kept it close in the first half, which included quarterback Bo Nix playing quite well, the Jaguars were able to pull away in the second half. Sure, this is far from a must-win game, but falling to 0-2 with two key conferences losses would be quite the early hole.
However, the Broncos can win, and we outlined three seasons why they will in Week 2.
Denver Broncos have more roster talent and are facing a team with an unsustainable streak
The Jaguars might be due to lose a game
This might seem silly, but the Jaguars have won nine games in a row dating back to the 2025 regular season. Of those nine wins, seven of them have been by double-digits, and four of them have been by 20 points or more. Folks, this team has been throttling their opponents after a so-so 5-4 start in 2025.
This could make it seem like the Jaguars are this unbeatable entity, but that's far from the case. With how competent most teams are in the NFL, and how close games usually play out, the Jaguars' current streak simply can't keep up like this.
Honestly, you could liken the Jaguars current streak, somewhat, to the Broncos 11-game winning streak in 2025. Many people saw just how many close games Denver was winning and did correctly say that that the fumes were wearing off and the team was 'due' to lose.
This could end up being what happens in Week 2. Jacksonville simply isn't going to keep winning games and blowing out opponents.
The last time an early season away loss happened...
I definitely dug a bit for this one, but the last time the Broncos had an early season away loss and then returned home the following week was from Week 3 into Week 4 during the 2025 season. The Broncos had lost their second last-second loss in a row, as they dropped contests to the Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Chargers.
In Week 4, the team returned home for a primetime showdown against the Cincinnati Bengals. Now, yes, I understand that the Bengals did not have Joe Burrow in that game and also had a poor defense, but the Broncos still did exactly what they should have - blown out a bad team.
Denver also obviously had a bad taste in their mouth after two-straight close losses, and I would argue that the team's Week 1 loss this year was significantly worse than the Weeks 2 and 3 losses to open up the 2025 season.
This is a 14-win team from a year ago and a team that was all but in the Super Bowl if not for a broken ankle. They know how to respond and win games, period.
The Broncos simply have better personnel than the Jaguars
I am not sure this is up for debate. Yes, the Jaguars are an excellent team, as both they and the Broncos have 14-4 regular season records since the start of the 2025 season, but, at the moment, the Broncos simply have more 'good' players than Jacksonville.
The Jaguars are still early on in this regime - the Liam Coen and James Gladstone era is only in year two, and this front office is still trying to clean up the remaining mess of the Trent Baalke era. Baalke was the team's General Manager before Gladstone got hired.
Jacksonville does have nice players at wide receiver and some neat defensive linemen, but, overall, the roster talent just isn't quite what the Broncos have. Denver's offensive line matches up well against a Jaguars defensive line that had less than half of the sack total that the Broncos had in 2025.
The Broncos also sport more talent at running back and in the secondary. Where Jacksonville has really excelled is with this coaching staff being able to squeeze every single bit of juice out of their players and what they're good at, but in certain instances, the more talented team wins.
