The Denver Broncos have made some solid roster moves this offseason, but more work needs to be done. The roster is among the best in the NFL, but like any roster, there are remaining holes. With the 2026 NFL Draft now just weeks away, Denver, like the rest of the NFL, likely won't make any sort of notable free agency move until the draft is over.

At that point, we could see another small wave in the free agency market, but the draft still presents a chance for every team to find major upgrades at positions of need, and there are a few that the Broncos have to make, and fans are begging for.

Let's get into three of those moves here.

3 Denver Broncos roster moves fans are surely begginng for before the season begins

Adding another running back

Right now, no matter what Sean Payton wants to say, the Broncos are primed to 'run it back' at running back unless another player is brought in. The team seemed to have some level of interest in Travis Etienne during free agency, but when he signed with the New Orleans Saints, Denver likely then pivoted to wrapping up a fresh contract for J.K. Dobbins.

And it's not that Dobbins isn't an efficient player, it's that he simply cannot stay on the field, and this is something that every Broncos fan saw first-hand in 2025, and it's been an unfortunate part of his career. Dobbins is a very, very good player when healthy, but Denver does need to 'hedge' this investment with another player, perhaps in the 2026 NFL Draft or even in the free agency market.

The team can say what they want about RJ Harvey, but he was not an efficient runner in 2025, and if Dobbins again goes down, would this team really feel good about Harvey again having to carry the load?

Signing Von Miller

With the news that the Broncos will be giving Jonah Elliss some snaps at inside linebacker, some, including us, immediately began speculating if this potential full-time position switch could open up a spot in the EDGE room. If so, why not bring back Von Miller?

Miller is one of the best players in the history of the franchise, a Super Bowl MVP, and a future Hall of Fame player. Heck, he was still quite solid in 2025. He suited up for all 17 games for the Washington Commanders last season, racking up nine sacks, six tackles for loss, and 15 quarterback hits.

If Denver does indeed want to move and keep Elliss at inside linebacker, that EDGE group would need another addition, and you really might not be able to make a stronger argument for another player other than Miller. He is still productive, would surely want to chase another ring, and would get to return home to the team that drafted him.

Adding a viable inside linebacker

Yes, the Broncos plan on giving snaps to Elliss at this position, but this is still a brand-new development, and nothing is guaranteed. Simply put, this team needs to find another viable inside linebacker, and that isn't at all an exaggeration or overreaction. The 2025 season was a bit of a disaster for this position, but the team is slated to start Alex Singleton and Justin Strnad in 2026.

Whether it's plucking one of the many draftable linebacker prospects this year or dipping into the remaining free agency market, this position needs to be improved before the regular season begins. It's, by far, the weakest group on the roster and is again going to drag the defense down unless something changes.
