5 biggest hurdles the Broncos face in getting past the Chiefs
5. The Chiefs aren’t getting worse anytime soon…
As previously mentioned, this Kansas City Chiefs roster is stacked. It’s a well-constructed group by Brett Veach, and many people this last offseason (myself included) thought there would be a significant on-field impact with the team losing Tyreek Hill, but it turned out to be the opposite of that. The Chiefs kept humming along, leading the way for NFL offenses yet again.
The fact that this roster can get even better in 2023 is kind of frightening to think about.
Keep in mind that the Chiefs did what they did this year with some low-risk, high-reward types of players at receiver in JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and others. They made the trade for Kadarius Toney, who should be a big piece going forward, but the Chiefs could significantly upgrade at receiver in 2023.
What about defensively? This team has drafted so well in recent years and we saw the fruit of that throughout the postseason on the defensive side of the ball, but we also know the Chiefs are not afraid to make a bold trade when the opportunity arises to upgrade positions of need.
Can you imagine if another elite edge presence joined the fold?
On top of all that, players will go ring chasing in Kansas City. If this team has any semblance of an area of need, star players who are trying to win one before they retire will gladly join this Chiefs team.
Expect this roster to get better in 2023, even with some notable free agents like Orlando Brown Jr. getting set to hit the market.
These hurdles will not be easy for the Denver Broncos to clear. The Chiefs are a well-run team, but the Broncos can’t back down from the challenge. They’ve come close to beating Kansas City the last couple of seasons and the roster is not far off. With Sean Payton now in the head coaches chair, it feels like the Chiefs will at least have another team nipping at their heels in 2023.
