Potential Fits: Defensive Coordinator, Defensive Backs Coach, Pass Game Coordinator

Richard could fit a host of roles for the Broncos. Recently let go by the Saints, he served as their defensive backs coach and co-defensive coordinator last season in New Orleans under Dennis Allen. And with the obvious connection, Richard has worked under Payton before.

Prior to that, he served as the defensive backs coach for the Legion of Boom in Seattle from 2011-2014, and then the defensive coordinator for the subsequent three seasons before finding his way to Dallas for 2018 and 2019, before finally being in New Orleans for the last two seasons after taking 2020 off.

KOA’s Benjamin Allbright noted that he sees Richard joining the Broncos in “some capacity”, which leaves the door open for a ton of roles. However, that flexibility is a blessing for the Broncos, considering how early in this process they are. His ability to potentially hold several different spots gives them the ability to continue to find the best fits for the several openings they will have. Of anyone on this list, Richard feels like the safest bet to find up in Denver.
