Denver Broncos ownership reportedly fed up with Nathaniel Hackett?
It has been an unfortunate season for the 2022 Denver Broncos. It is highly expected that head coach Nathaniel Hackett will not make it past this season in his current role. According to Jordan Schultz of the Score, the organization—specifically new ownership—has become “fed up with Hackett’s inability to lead men…”
To me, that sounds potentially like an off-field issue, too. That combination is not going to do it in the NFL. It makes it clearer that the Denver Broncos should have hired somebody who has previous head coaching experience.
The Broncos decided to hire Hackett, who had Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay instead of going with a guy like Dan Quinn. Though that continues to look like the big mistake right now, it seems as if Quinn is still potentially an option if/when the Broncos decide to move on from Hackett. At least that is the hope of Broncos Country. That or Sean Payton.
The expectations for this season were that the Broncos would start off slow because of the new quarterback and offensive system. Sadly, through 12 weeks, nothing on the offensive side of the ball seems to have improved despite adding Jerry Rosburg to help management as well as going to Klint Kubiak as the play caller. It is the same stuff every week.
Perhaps the lowest point of the season was the team’s loss to the now-4-7-1 Indianapolis Colts. The Broncos did not even have to face Jonathan Taylor during that matchup because he was out due to an injury.
At the end of the day, the Broncos have a ton of players on injured reserve including several starters. Their running back situation is a mess. Their wide receiver position is a mess. Their offensive line is, yes, a mess. That doesn’t excuse the team’s consistently bad play. The team has Russell Wilson. It is absolutely shocking that even with him this team doesn’t show improvement.
The Denver Broncos have allowed several “player of the week” awards this season, which is also an indicator of how bad this season has been:
At the end of the day, it falls on the head coach and perhaps the general manager. It appears the team will wait until the end of the season to make a final decision on Hackett. If the team had lost to the Jaguars in London, I am sure that decision would have been made. But the victory bought him more time.
There you have it: yet more proof that this team is not going anywhere good. When will this cycle end?
