Jets reportedly not in mix for Bradley Chubb, Dolphins are
Among the names of Denver Broncos players that could be traded within the next day is outside linebacker Bradley Chubb. The team would like to keep Chubb if at all possible but would not turn down a huge offer, it seems. Although the Broncos would like to keep Chubb, the price tag might be a little too steep.
That being said, two teams that have been linked to Chubb the most as of late as the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets. Well, according to ESPN NFL Nation reporter Rich Cimini, the Jets are in fact not looking to trade for the 26-year-old pass rusher.
It makes sense, given the team has high-priced C.J. Mosley and Kwon Alexander at linebacker, along with a very good defensive front overall. Alexander is currently on a one-year deal with the Jets and it would not surprise me if the team signs him to a long-term deal at some point.
As it stands now, the Dolphins hold the 20th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, originally from the San Francisco 49ers. Their own pick, currently No. 24, was forfeited.
Denver Broncos probably can’t afford Bradley Chubb.
When it comes to negotiating, both sides have to agree to a contract and word in Broncos Country is that Chubb is going to get $20 million annually. That’s very steep for a player who has missed as much time as Chubb has in the span of four NFL seasons (not counting the 2022 season, in which he has played in every game.
Chubb has performed very well when healthy and any team would be glad to have him despite potential injury concerns. The talent level is there.
Ideally, the Broncos will get the highest-possible draft pick they can for Chubb. I think that we can cross off several teams from the list, including the Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, and Carolina Panthers (who each hold a top-3 pick as things stand right now).
those teams aren’t going to want to part with such a premium draft pick. You’ll have to look at mid-first-round teams for a trade partner. Maybe the Chicago Bears, who just traded Robert Quinn to the Philadelphia Eagles. Maybe the Eagles are in contention for Chubb. They do have two first-round picks.
Whichever team ends up with Chubb would be getting a great player that can make an immediate impact. It sucks to be in this position if you’re the Denver Broncos, but that’s just the business side of the game.
