Did Denver Broncos win save Hackett for the rest of the season?

The Denver Broncos barely squeaked by the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on Sunday morning by a final score of 21-17. It was a win but it was an ugly win at that. Prior to the game, many thought a loss would spell the end of the Nathaniel Hackett experiment.

Recently, Hackett was the betting favorite to be the next head coach fired.

I will admit I thought Hackett would be gone either way but firing him after a win doesn’t make a good impression. Here we are, heading into the bye week following a win and it appears Hackett is likely safe. The question is, “for how much longer?”

I would never hope for a loss but for the people who want Hackett out of the building, it would make sense to keep him around until at least the end of the 2022 season.

The reasoning is simple and it is similar to how newly-signed players being inactive works: There just isn’t enough time during a week to get everything prepared for an interim head coach to come in in the middle of the season. It does not seem like that would solve anything.

Ultimately, the victory and the bye week come at the perfect time for the Denver Broncos and Hackett.

The sad reality is that the fashion in which the Broncos won on Sunday morning doesn’t seem like something that is sustainable for the season. The Jaguars also entered this matchup with two wins, so they aren’t in a great position either. Heading into the 2022 season, with Russell Wilson, this should have been looked at by many as an easy win.

The tune had quickly changed and most people appear to be on the “we’re probably going to lose every game” train. There’s not a lot of confidence in this team as far as a fan’s point of view. In the locker room, however, this type of win will help keep everyone together. The big question is, how long can this sloppy play hold up?
