Nathaniel Hackett the betting favorite to be next head coach fired
Things for the Denver Broncos just appear to be getting worse. Well, if you ask nearly everybody in Broncos Country, this next “thing” is speculation that “worse” might become “better” at some point—potentially during the team’s bye week. uSTADIUM posted odds from BetOnline for which head coach would be fired next. Denver Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett is atop the list…
After yet another loss last week, the Broncos are now in London to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars. Following every international trip, the teams playing across seas have their bye week the following week. That gives the Broncos an opportunity to look at the direction of their football team.
If the Broncos end up losing to the Jaguars in London, Hackett’s seat will likely be too hot for him to sit on. Unfortunately, that’s just the way it goes for teams every year in the NFL. The job is not for long if you aren’t showing tremendous progress week in and week out—even if you are just a rookie head coach.
The sad thing here is that, with the offensive scheme that Hackett has brought with him, Russell Wilson just has not been able to figure things out. It almost feels as if Wilson is a rookie quarterback learning rocket science. The fit just does not seem to be there.
The Broncos are tied to Wilson for the next six years with the chance of a potential out in 2026. By then, I would hope that the team has found the right head coach to match the play style of their rich quarterback.
Wilson didn’t just drop off with the snap of a finger. I would be shocked if the Broncos hired a new head coach and Wilson was still performing terribly. It has to be the scheme.
Unfortunately, we have been down the road of searching for a head coach more times in the last five years than anyone would hope. It’s about hiring the right person for the job to fit the players at this point. This roster is strong. We just need the right guy to lead the way. Nathaniel Hackett has not proven that he’s the guy for the job and everybody sees it.
