The Denver Broncos came away with a huge win in week three. While it wasn’t pretty, there was clearly some progress made from the first two games.  Poorly coached teams make the same mistakes from week to week, and insanity is doing the same thing over and over while hoping for the same result.

Denver has a long way to go, but their week three win showed some promise.  After two games, it was clear that the Broncos had a massive issue.  Discipline and game management were the two biggest issues that the team needed to correct.  Last week leading up to week three, Denver hired Jerry Rosburg, a widely respected coach who was with the Baltimore Ravens for years.

He was essentially serving as an assistant/game management type coach for them.  The Broncos brought him in and stuck him in the box to oversee the field on Sunday night.  Rosburg’s main duties consist of advising Hackett on some in-game decision-making.

It was clear that Rosburg had an impact on Sunday.  There were no game management issues at all, I don’t think.  Hackett seemed to be more in control of his team, and some ripple effects happened because of it.  Denver was able to get their plays off in time, and the offense, while pedestrian again, never seemed to be lost pre-snap.

It was clear that the in-game operations ran much smoother on Sunday, and I think it’s also clear that Nathaniel Hackett and Jerry Rosburg had a plan going into the game.  The Broncos also cleaned up their penalties, being called for just five, which was much less than what they were called for in each of the first two games.

Arguably the two biggest issues that plagued the team after two weeks were mostly corrected in week three.  That’s a quick turnaround for a new coaching staff.  Another huge positive from this game is the absolutely insane and shutdown defense, coordinated by first-time defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, who has done a fabulous job so far.

I don’t think people realize how good of a game plan he had.  The San Francisco 49ers’ offense has been one of the absolute best in the NFL in recent years, and their running scheme is incredibly hard to stop.

Outside of one drive in the first quarter, the Broncos’ defense was nothing short of excellent all night, and each unit of the defense made phenomenal plays.  Hardly anything positive can be said about the offense, though, as the Broncos have yet to score 20 points in a game.

However, there were clear improvements on Sunday night.
