Most likely reasons Denver Broncos fail in 2022 – George Paton

For all of George Paton’s good deeds in Broncos Country so far, there have been some not so good deeds as well.  I think Paton’s biggest problem, and one that I am hoping doesn’t fully develop, is his lack of aggressiveness in certain areas.

Sure, he was aggressive in free agency and making a trade for Russell Wilson, but he hasn’t shown enough urgency in the depth side of things.  The Broncos are, at this moment, currently down three receivers in Tim Patrick, Jerry Jeudy, and KJ Hamler.  George Paton has done absolutely nothing to try and remedy this in the meantime until Jeudy and Hamler get healthy.

When Bradley Chubb went down last year in Jacksonville, he signed a player off of the Jaguars practice squad– that’s it.  And when Jerry Jeudy went down, I don’t believe he did anything more than elevate someone from the practice squad.

I also think there is room to add an inside linebacker, which he hasn’t done.  Josey Jewell has yet to play in 2022, Jonas Griffith is still very ripe, and Alex Singleton is not a viable backup option, in my opinion.  I do not think his in-season roster moves indicate any sort of urgency, and the Broncos may end up suffering more injuries as the season goes on.  To date, Paton has not shown much in the way of replacing or trying to replace some of the guys who have gone down.

Just look at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  They had Mike Evans and a rehabbing Chris Godwin heading into the 2022 season.  They signed Russell Gage in free agency, brought in Julio Jones a bit later, and just signed Cole Beasley.  To me, that’s what urgency looks like.
