Should the Denver Broncos target Odell Beckham?

Why OBJ? …Why not?!

The Denver Broncos are already searching for answers with their depth at the wide receiver position, but after losing Tim Patrick for the season the question now becomes: Who is next up?

Fans were saddened to hear that Patrick wouldn’t be able to suit up this season after suffering an ACL injury during training camp this past week, forcing the Broncos to take a deeper look at their wide receiver position. Even with third-year KJ Hamler returning from his season-ending knee injury a year ago, the Broncos will still need help to beef up their depth chart to replace Patrick’s presence.

So, who could be that perfect solution?

Odell Beckham Jr.! Heading into his ninth season, OBJ is no spring chicken, but he offers explosiveness and the ability to separate like string cheese. The downfall is that Beckham is coming off his second torn ACL in two years, with NFL teams having the expectation that the star wide-out wont be available to lace up on the field until October.

Despite having to play the wait game while Beckham rehabs, the value added in his veteran experience coming off a Super Bowl championship could be suitable to young guys like Jerry Jeudy. The biggest misconception about Beckham is that his abilities aren’t worth the headache that could come along with it, however, his short stint with the LA Rams should debunk any of that noise.

After being released by the Cleveland Browns, Beckham went to the hot LA Rams and proved that not only he can still twist up cornerbacks like pretzels, but he can do it playing second fiddle. Many wondered if Beckham’s head was too big for his skills, but proving that he can play any role given and exceed, should have tore off any warning label that comes with the three-time Pro Bowler.

During his time with the Rams, Beckham finished with 27 receptions, 305 yards, and five touchdowns in just eight games. In the playoffs Beckham showcased what made him a household name with 21 receptions for 288 yards, a catch percentage of 80.8 percent, and two touchdowns. Before sustaining his injury in the 23-20 Super Bowl victory over the Bengals, Beckham once again looked to have it all together, catching two out of three passes for 52 yards and one touchdown.

I’m not saying Beckham will return back to his elite route running. However, the veteran experience and the possibility of that explosive route running still being there is more than enough for the Denver Broncos to take that gamble.
