The Denver Broncos are showing confidence in their wide receiver group despite losing Tim Patrick to a torn ACL on Tuesday.
When the Denver Broncos lost wide receiver, Tim Patrick, for the season, many people asked the question, “well, who are they going to bring in?” Names were tossed around.
T.Y. Hilton? Not terrible, but he is probably past his prime. Will Fuller? Unfortunately Fuller has never finished an entire season.
Emmanuel Sanders? I personally would love that but I put those chances at zero-point-zero, primarily because he is 35 years old. Watch him ball out for another team, making me eat my words…
Instead of at least giving the guys I mentioned a workout, the team brought in guys that don’t really move the needle. Unless you pay attention to the schools these players went to, you likely never have heard of them.
As of Wednesday, they did not add a wideout but did sign running back Max Borghi, like Ryan O’Halloran points out in the tweet.
The fact that the Broncos haven’t at least called a proven veteran receiver highlights their confidence in the group that they have in training camp. We know Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler are at the top of the depth chart.
Well, there are several receivers who have been making quite a bit of noise at Broncos camp.
One of those guys is fifth-round pick Montrell Washington. I was convinced for a while that Washington was just going to play the role of returner but with Patrick’s injury, he should get plenty of opportunities to show his skills as a receiver.
Seth Williams, Trey Quinn, and Kendall Hinton (to a point) have also all made some headlines as they try and make the team.
Trey Quinn a sleeper on his way to cracking the Denver Broncos roster?
Denver Broncos wide receiver/returner Trey Quinn appears to have had a strong first day of training camp. If he keeps it up, he could earn a roster spot.
Although none of the free agent wide receivers would cost a whole lot, the Broncos don’t appear to be going down that road. I’m personally a fan of that decision. Would it hurt to sign a known veteran for cheap? Absolutely not. Is it necessary to do so? Absolutely not.
