What grade do Broncos receive for selection of TE Greg Dulcich?
The Denver Broncos needed some more depth at the tight end spot and they have found some help in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Broncos lost former first-round pick Noah Fant in the trade to acquire Russell Wilson, leaving Albert Okwuegbunam as the team’s new starter and really, the only offensive threat on the roster at the tight end position.
It would have been great to see the Broncos nab Trey McBride in this draft but when the Arizona Cardinals selected him with the No. 55 overall pick, that ship sailed. The Broncos traded with the Houston Texans before making this pick, sending No. 75 to Houston for No. 80 and an extra fifth-round choice (No. 162).
Broncos new tight end Greg Dulcich walked on at UCLA
The Broncos were able to get the player that many felt was the draft’s next-best tight end behind McBride in UCLA’s Greg Dulcich.
Dulcich is a big target at 6-foot-4 and 243 pounds and he should become an instant contributor in the passing game. He will need some work as a blocker as his game is far from refined there, but the Broncos did sign Eric Tomlinson through free agency to chip in there.
Like Nik Bonitto, Dulcich is a player that has been heavily connected to the Broncos throughout this draft season in mock drafts as it was obvious the team was going to need another tight end. Because this is not the deepest tight end class, this pick makes sense.
Dulcich’s numbers with the Bruins won’t jump off the page. He caught 77 passes for 1,353 yards in his time there but he did score five touchdowns in each of his last two seasons. He did all of this as a walk-on, which is impressive enough by itself.
He should be able to become a reliable red-zone target for the Broncos and he is a guy that Russell Wilson will make much better than he was in college.
Wilson played with tight ends such as Luke Willson, Will Dissly and Jacob Hollister and all of those players were better than they had any right to be while in Seattle due to Wilson.
This is a good fit and a good pick by the Broncos, though because Nakobe Dean was still on the board and had legitimate first-round value despite any injury concerns, it’s far from a perfect pick.
