Denver Broncos: Seven dream free agents team should sign
Bobby Wagner
This seems impossible, but if there’s a player who is joining Russell Wilson in Denver it is Bobby Wagner. Both Wilson and Wagner both joined the Seattle Seahawks the same day and left the same day. Wagner is a leader, a strong voice of a Seahawks defense. If Denver feels Browning is not quite ready the best solution should be to re-sign Josey Jewell or go all out on Wagner.
Wagner was a crucial part of the Legion of Boom defense. Throughout his career, Wagner has shown to be a tremendous run defense and pass coverage. Age is of course a factor that might push Jewell over the top there. That said, in a Super Bowl window and the opportunity presents itself to sign Wagner it has to be considered. He is also shown to be a tackling machine every season he’s been in the league. There has been only one year where he never registered 100+ tackles. Yet, Wagner averaged 114 tackles a season since 2012.
Between Wagner and Simmons, the defense would have strong voices in the locker room who also can provide input to help get players in the best position to succeed. Green helmet relays play from defensive coordinator to rest of defense. While we mentioned Jewell is an option instead of Wagner, it is still a realm of possibility Denver can sign both. Jewell’s season was cut short but has shown strides of getting better every single season. Frankly, there’s a window with the injury he sustained that Jewell can be retained also.
