The Denver Broncos will have some money to spend when the free-agent signing period begins in less than two weeks.

Currently, the Denver Broncos are sitting on a touch over $38 million in available cap space, according to Over the Cap. The Broncos have plenty of money to spend, the trick will be for George Paton to convince players to come play in Denver.

There will be plenty of other teams zeroing in on some of these prized available players and that often creates a bidding war for their services. Will a plate prioritize money or winning football games? Most players like to look for the best combination of both.

Denver Broncos should be in the mix for every prized pass-rusher on the market

The Broncos can spend some cash, but they haven’t had a winning organization for several years, having missed the playoffs six years in a row. Paton’s best bet to improve the team quickly will be through free agency and there are some great players about to be available for the taking.

Recently, Marc Sessler of NFL.com picked one free agent that he considered to be a “best fit” for each team in the league.

The Broncos expect to be busy searching for ways to get players who can get after the quarterback, perhaps through free agency and the draft. Sessler went and found one of the better pass-rushers on the open market and put him in Denver.

That would be Randy Gregory.

Gregory was a second-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2015 out of Nebraska. He has spent his entire five-year career with the Cowboys.

Many saw him as a first-round pick but after failing a drug test at the scouting combine, his draft stock tumbled. Since then, Gregory has been suspended multiple times for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, but the Cowboys never gave up on him.

He played quite well for the team in 2021, collecting six sacks to go with an interception and three forced fumbles. Paired with Bradley Chubb, the Broncos could field another great pass rush when you throw Malik Reed and Jonathon Cooper into the mix.

The Broncos could still add another Edge rusher early in the draft for added insurance. Another move that would make quite a bit of sense for Denver would be to bring in Harold Landry as a free agent.

Gregory would obviously be a risky addition due to his past, but if the Broncos could keep him in line, there is no doubt that the talent of this player is sky high and he is still just 29 years old.

Spotrac estimates Gregory getting a contract that is valued in the neighborhood of $13.2 million annually. That is a bit high, but that is the price you pay to get a player who can routinely cause disruption for opposing quarterbacks.

It would be easy to dislike this move as many will push Gregory aside due to his past antics, but it is one I obviously agree with as I named Gregory as an early free-agent target for the Broncos some time ago.

The Broncos will need to make some noise by adding at least one more pass-rusher this offseason. Gregory is a name that stands out on the list and should be strongly considered by Paton.
