Denver Broncos bargain free agents for 2022

Harrison Phillips, DT

Denver needs to improve along the defensive line and get younger, and Harrison Phillips can provide that.

Drafted by the Bills in the 3rd round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Phillips played in 26 games the past two seasons.

He has been more of a rotational piece for Buffalo, playing in 55% of snaps in 2021, but he provides insane strength and great run-stuffing ability.  He doesn’t exactly generate a ton of pass rush.

Phillips’ role in a defense is clear.  He isn’t going to be an every-down player.  He’ll see the field on early downs to stop the run and leave the field on third down situations.

Being that the Denver Broncos’ rush defense was its weak point in 2021, finding cheap players who can stop the run, and have some youth are valuable assets to the team.

None of these free agents are going to make headlines, but they’re smart signings that can help push a team over the edge in December and January.
