Could the Denver Broncos cut Drew Lock?

This option may be crazy especially since he has just one more year remaining on his contract, but let’s just run with it.

If the Broncos cut Lock, it’s simply because they feel there’s no use for him on the roster. It would also indicate that there’s a clear-cut plan at quarterback. Aaron Rodgers? Russell Wilson? Who would be the backup if not Lock?

The main reason for the Broncos potentially cutting Lock is because of the new coaching staff coming into Denver. They’ll want their own guy.

The Broncos are bringing in Klint Kubiak as their quarterbacks coach, making yet another change in Lock’s football career dating back to his college years. That’s a setup for failure. You don’t put all the pressure on the quarterback but that’s what people tend to do.

Lock has also missed some games during his short career due to injury. While others obviously have, too, it’s a bad look for a guy who has struggled thus far and therefore hindering his development. At what point do you say “enough” and move on?

There would be other teams that would be interested in Lock, and he very well could thrive in the right system just like many other quarterbacks. He’s still young, so if the Broncos do move on, Denver likely won’t be his final stop in the NFL.
