Which teams could take a chance on Denver Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater once he hits free agency?
Unfortunately, we can add Teddy Bridgewater to the list of quarterbacks the Denver Broncos have recycled over the past five years. While he may not have been the worst of the many the team has had since 2016, he wasn’t the ideal starter for this team.
Assuming this really is it for Bridgewater in Denver, he will have finished with 18 touchdowns, seven interceptions, 3,052 passing yards, a 66.9 completion percentage, and a quarterback rating of 94.9. That’s in 14 games; Bridgewater missed three games due to injury, including a scary concussion that knocked him out for the rest of the year.
The hiring of new head coach Nathaniel Hackett brings the rumors of Aaron Rodgers to the Denver Broncos and I just don’t believe there’s any logical reason to bring Bridgewater back, even as his backup. If anything, that role might go to Drew Lock.
Bridgewater has started 63 of his 73 career games played since being drafted in 2014. He had a 17-11 record with the Minnesota Vikings—the team that drafted him. After that, he made stops at New Orleans as the backup to Drew Brees, and Carolina with the Panthers, where he went 4-11.
Whoever the Denver Broncos choose as its starting quarterback for 2022, it probably isn’t Bridgewater. Here’s hoping it will be someone who is much, much better.
