What would Davante Adams look like in the Denver Broncos offense?
By Noah Smith
The Denver Broncos may finally be ready to cash in on a quarterback this offseason. Could one of the top receivers in the game be coming also?
As the Denver Broncos continue their search for a new head coach, the turmoil brewing in Green Bay has to be in the thoughts of every member of Broncos Country.
While star quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains noncommittal towards his future with the team, the future of another key member of the Packers’ success remains unclear. Receiver Davante Adams will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and could be following Rodgers to a new location should Rodgers demand a trade.
Could the two pair up in the Mile High City?
If Aaron Rodgers does ask for a trade from Green Bay, the Denver Broncos seem like the ideal landing spot. A loaded defense full of cheap, young talent would provide the support that Rodgers is looking for. Adding Rodgers to a talented young offense full of playmakers could elevate the Broncos to Super Bowl contention immediately.
The only thing that could improve a roster with Rodgers would be a top-five receiver in the NFL, one Rodgers already has chemistry with. Luckily for the Broncos, Davante Adams fits the bill.
Adams would immediately step in as Rodgers’ go-to guy while allowing Rodgers time to develop chemistry with the young weapons already in the building. We’ve seen Adams operate as a one-man-show on the Packers for several years now, and surrounding Adams with threats in Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick would only open things up for Adams.
While the Packers may have an agreement to allow Aaron Rodgers to pick his next team if he chooses to move on, it’s unlikely that Green Bay would simply allow Adams to follow his quarterback in free agency. A tag-and-trade seems much more likely if the Packers decide to let Adams leave.
So what would it cost the Denver Broncos to acquire Rodgers and Adams?
A trade like this won’t be easy or cheap for general manager George Paton. Multiple top-100 picks will be involved, along with a young and cheap fan-favorite player or two. One of the areas of strength for the Broncos is offensive weapons, and Jerry Jeudy or Noah Fant could absolutely be players that Green Bay would ask for in return.
While the depth at the receiving corps would take a hit in the trade, the top-end talent in a trio of Adams, Sutton, and Patrick is absurd. Three big-bodied targets for Rodgers to target down the field could mean historic production for Rodgers.
If George Paton is able to lure Aaron Rodgers to Denver, there’s a chance that Adams could follow him and pair up in the Mile High City. Combined with his old quarterback and the weapons already in Denver, Adams, and the Broncos could make a run at another Super Bowl.
